The Tata JTP, namely the Tigor JTP and the Tiago JTP, will soon receive an updated information and entertainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Tata Motors recently introduced Apple CarPlay in the XZ + variants of Tiago and Tigor. Tata Tiago, Tigor JTP come equipped with a 5-inch unit. Tata Motors could offer the same 7-inch unit with the JTP models as in the XZ + models. The JTP models will not receive any cosmetic change. The mechanical configuration will remain unchanged.
Connectivity Features are becoming common with new age cars that offer a lot of connectivity technology. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available with almost all cars in the segment, except for a few, and soon Tata Motors will offer them with their JTP models. The Mumbai auto giant will update the information and entertainment system on the Tiago and Tigor JTP models to be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Tata Tiago, Tigor now gets Apple CarPlay:
Reports in the media suggest that 40 units of the high-performance JTP version are already in production. It is expected that Tata will soon equip the next batch of cars with the updated information and entertainment system. The XZ + variants in the Tiago and Tigor standard recently received Apple CarPlay in the 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system. The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP models are coated with a 5-inch unit, however, it is likely that both models receive the same infotainment system with 7.0-inch touch screen that is available in the XZ + version. As for the mechanics, the JTP versions of Tiago and Tigor have a turbocharged engine of 1.2 liters and 3 cylinders, with a maximum power of 112 hp at 5,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 150 Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. The transmission duties are transferred by a conventional 5-speed manual unit.
The hatchback Tata Tiago and the compact sedan Tigor have had a constant performance for the Indian car manufacturer. In an attempt to keep them fresh, both cars were updated at the end of 2018 with the new high-performance XZ + variants, which included the addition of more dazzling headlights and alloy wheels, among other features. Also an important part of the update was a 7.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system, packed with Android Auto, which replaced the larger 5.0-inch touch screen previously available. Now, Tata has implemented the Apple CarPlay compatibility for this information and entertainment system, which will allow iPhone users to take full advantage of their connectivity features.
To put things in perspective, the Tata Tiago faces other budget hatchbacks such as Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Hyundai Santro, all of which come with screens of similar size and are compatible with the integration of Android and Apple smartphones. The Tata Tigor rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Honda Amaze and the Ford Aspire, all of which are now on an equal footing in terms of their information and entertainment systems. Interestingly, the Hexa model of the year 2019 comes with the same 7.0-inch touch screen, although it remains to be seen if, and when, Tata will update it with Apple CarPlay. It should be mentioned that Tiago NRG, Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP continue to offer themselves with the oldest 5.0-inch screen unit that lacks full smartphone integration.
Tata Tiago Competitors
At the bracket in which the Tata Tiago on road price falls into, it competes against big stalwarts like Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Ford Figo, Renault Kwid and Hyundai Grand i10. Out of these, it clearly overshadows the Celerio and the Kwid in terms of the power. The Grand i10 diesel is more powerful than the Tiago, but only marginally. However, the petrol variant makes a couple of bhp more than the Hyundai.
